RAW FAQ

At The RAW DOG, we understand that feeding your dog a raw diet may be a new concept. Below is a FAQ specific to The RAW DOG. We hope this helps you understand the benefits of feeding raw. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Kibble is what dogs eat, isn’t it?

There is no kibble that comes close to the nutrition of raw food for your dog. While your dog can survive on kibble they will only thrive on raw food.

Dogs lack digestive enzymes in their saliva and need the enzymes to be present in their food. Cooking destroys the digestive enzymes in food and therefore is not the best

Why raw food?

Raw is the way nature intended for dogs to eat. A diet consisting primarily of raw meat, organs, bone, and fat reflects what your pet would eat in the wild, and therefore is the healthiest option. A raw diet also offers natural and proper proportions of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, and amino acids. Unlike humans dogs do not have digestive enzymes in their saliva therefore need the ones present in raw food (enzymes are destroyed in the cooking process of kibble). Other benefits include no doggy odour, naturally cleans teeth, healthier immune system, smooth coat, no dandruff, eliminates skin issues, helps fight arthrits and small firm stool.

What about parasites and bacteria?

Our products are all fresh and human grade meats from government inspected facilities.

Your dog’s stomach is different than ours. It is equipped with very high acidity levels to handle raw meat and the bacteria that come with it. In the wild a wolf is able to scavenge and eat items from feces, bugs, and rotting flesh. Your dog is no different.

Will my dog undergo detoxification?

Dog owners sometimes observe a phase of detoxification when they are first switched over to a raw food diet. This may occur because there is residue left over from the previous diet. Common signs of detoxification include bad breath, earwax buildup, increased bowel movements, foul odor, diarrhea, vomiting and itchy skin. Some dogs undergo detoxification as their digestive systems get rid of toxins that have built up. As fresh foods with more nutrients enter the dog's body, they are able to build up stronger immune systems. Detox takes about a week or two, but can take up to a couple of months in some cases. The process may be sped up with increased exercise and drinking lots of fresh water.

All commercial dog food contains grain why is The RAW DOG grain free?

Dogs lack the digestive enzymes necessary to process grain, it is merely filler to lower costs and increase profits for companies. We do not believe in adding filler to boost profit. We make and feed our own dogs our product. We guarantee you only pay for what your dog needs.
